Bring your lunch, and bring it in reusable containers. No plastic sandwich bags and no brown paper bags. By bringing your lunch in reusable containers you are reducing your carbon footprint in two ways. You aren’t using your car to leave the office and you aren’t needlessly creating excess waste. Even recyclables are excess. It’s best not to waste anything if it can be avoided.

Is Food Waste Recycling Always the Best Idea?

Food waste causes emissions as it’s hauled away and then it fills up our landfills. Once it’s in a landfill, it is sealed in and preserved. It won’t biodegrade and return its nutrients to the earth. It’s lost to us. How do we stop this from happening?  What is the best possible solution? One solution is food waste recycling.

Food waste recycling or organic recycling is composting food waste. Many municipalities are rolling out programs that allow residents to recycle their food waste and garden trimmings. It also allows the recycling of things that aren’t friendly to typical recycling like greasy pizza boxes. It’s a good thing because it keeps the food products out of landfills and makes them useful.  However, trucks still have to drive around to pick it up and people still have to drive to work to ride around on the trucks that pick it up. It’s not carbon neutral. No recycling is. There’s always one thing that is better than recycling.
